What is a realistic budget for a bathroom remodel?

Most people asking this question want one number. The honest answer is a range, and the range depends on which bathroom you're talking about and what you're changing in it. Here's how it breaks down for complete, professionally managed bathroom remodels in Plano.
The three realistic ranges
Complete secondary bathroom: $20,000–$35,000. New tile, vanity, fixtures and lighting in the existing layout. This is the hall bath or guest bath.
Full primary bathroom: $35,000–$65,000. Shower rebuild with proper waterproofing, tile, vanity, plumbing fixtures, lighting and ventilation.
Complex primary bathroom: $65,000 and up. Substantial layout changes in a big primary, like moving walls, plumbing or the shower.

What moves a bathroom from one range to the next
Layout. Keeping the toilet, drain and shower where they are keeps you in the lower part of a range. Moving a drain, a toilet or a wall is what pushes a primary bath into the top tier.
The shower. In most bathrooms it's the biggest single cost: demolition, waterproofing, tile, glass and valves all live there.
Selections. Tile, plumbing fixtures and countertops can move the same room by thousands. That's a design decision as much as a budget one.
